Cabin top handrails maintenance

My handrails is a bit loose at one spot, and I want to rebed both, but cant see what's behind the liner. Not sure if theyre screwed into a backing plate or just loose. Anyone know if the deck is cored there or if epoxy filling is needed? Also, has anyone tried to just oil the handrails instead of varnishing? Mine are not matched at all like all of them, and I'm thinking of either stripping everything or making it all match

Hmm. Mine didn't have any backing plate, but it had bolts and old sealant... barely hanging on, barely getting by. I used thickened epoxy to re-bed and it's pretty sturdy now. As for finish, I went with teak oil since it's less hassle than varnish, and it weathers nicer if you're not chasing the gloss.

Teak oil, yes thats clever! Will try that out for sure.. By the way, which specific brand/type of epoxy did you use?

Thanks for this! Curious though, when you re-bedded with thickened epoxy, did you use any kind of filler or just straight epoxy mix? And with teak oil, how often do you reapply to keep it looking decent?
