Installing a transducer

I'm about to install a transducer for my Hawk eye depth sounder on my Tartan 30 and was wondering if theres anything specific about this boat i should watch out for. It's my first time doing this kind of install, so if anyone's done it before, any tips on placement or quirks with the hull would be super helpful.

Nice choice with the HawkEye, I think that should work fine. For the Tartan 30, watch out for any core material in the hull. You'll want solid fiberglass for clean readings. Try placing it near the keel but not too close to any through-hulls. A bit of testing with water inside the hull before sealing can help find the best spot.

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear about the Hawkeye, i'll definitely keep it near the keel, away from through hulls, and do some testing with water inside the hull beforehand to pinpoint the sweet spot. Thanks!

I'm leaning toward a thru-hull install to keep things clean and accessible.. I havent really tested the signal through the spot yet, would mineral oil be a good stand in for water in that test? Also, do you have any tips on ensuring a strong signal through the hull? Thanks a lot
